Darkstar Skateboards was founded in 1997 in El Segundo, California, by brothers Chet Thomas (a professional skateboarder) and Matt Thomas. The name references the Grateful Dead song "Dark Star."
The brand began as Darkstar Wheels before expanding into skateboard decks. It later operated under Dwindle Distribution / Globe International ownership structures.
Darkstar is known for detailed, often dark graphic aesthetics (including a knight-helmet logo) and produces decks, wheels, and related skate product.
