About Z-Flex

Z-Flex traces to 1976, when Kent Sherwood (stepfather of Z-Boy Jay Adams) broke away from Zephyr and started EZ-Ryder with riders including Jay Adams and Tony Alva; about six months later it was renamed Z-Flex.

The brand grew out of Santa Monica/Dogtown Zephyr culture after Zephyr owners approached Sherwood’s fiberglass shop to make skateboards.

Z-Flex claims innovations including abrasion-resistant urethane wheels (Z-Smooth, Z Grooves) and early use of topside concave, and remains a long-running deck and cruiser brand tied to Z-Boys history.
