About ASICS
ASICS traces to Onitsuka Co., Ltd., founded in Kobe, Japan, in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka; the ASICS Corporation name dates to a 1977 merger. The name is an acronym of the Latin "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano."
ASICS launched branded skateboard shoes in Japan in February 2020 (GEL-FLEXKEE PRO and GEL-FLEXKEE), developed with sports-engineering analysis of skate movement and advisory athletes.
The skate line adapts heritage and performance models (e.g., GEL-VICKKA PRO from the 1980s VICKKA trainer) with skate-specific uppers, board feel, and GEL cushioning. The program later expanded beyond Japan with a dedicated skate team.
