Gullwing Truck Company was formed in 1976 when skaters Mike Williams and Joe Lynch partnered with precision designer Bill Brawner and CEO Walt Tiedge (Teidge) at a San Diego precision/manufacturing firm.

Gullwing is widely credited with introducing a split-axle truck design aimed at quicker turning and high-speed stability for slalom and downhill, followed by the tougher Phoenix for pool/vert abuse.

Later models such as the Pro III (groove-hanger era) were major 1980s trucks; the brand continues producing performance trucks for modern and period-correct setups.
