Schmitt Stix grew from Paul Schmitt (“The Professor”), who began making UHMW plastic skateboard rails in Florida in the late 1970s; locals nicknamed them Schmitt Stix before he expanded into decks.

In 1985 Schmitt moved operations to Costa Mesa, California, aligning with Vision; by 1986 riders John Lucero and Jeff Grosso helped scale the brand. Schmitt later opened PS Stix as a development/manufacturing shop.

Known for innovation (including early long kick-nose/concave experiments) and high-quality construction, Schmitt Stix and PS Stix pressed boards for many 1990s brands and remain associated with classic and reissue deck shapes.
